Description

Plant Description Dwarf Puerto Rican Plantain Plant is perfect for a tropical edible garden. This delicious fruit is perfect for cooking and is one of the more popular varieties in Puerto Rico. This dwarf variety of plantain tree is shorter than your average plantain, yet has a thicker trunk and is less likely to blow over in winds and can generally withstand the weight of its own fruit. Grows 6-8 Feet and hardy in zone 8-11. Full to partial sun and fast growing. Plantain Plants can be planted in most healthy soils with normal pH range 6.0-8. I recommend growing in an organic potting soil with the fertilizer and beneficials already mix in. Keep your soil moist, not not soaked and keep consistently watered. A key feature is the banana's rhizomatous root system, which puts up new stalks each year. For good fruit production, it helps to limit the plant to three or four stalks that are different ages. The oldest and tallest one should be flowering and/or fruiting. The second one should be one-half to one-third the size of the first. And finally, there should be one or two young plants that are six inches to three feet tall.

Plantain Seeds - Musa paradisiaca These make VERY beautiful plants and a TASTY treat also!!!!! A beautiful small seeded variety of edible and ornamental bananas producing a type of sweet plantain fruit. Grows to 10-20 feet tall with huge, cylindrical leaves. This species is sometimes crossed with the more common banana species to produce various edible variants.
Sow seeds 1/4 - 1/2 inch deep, in pots or trays of moist seed compost. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a constant temperature of between 68-77 F. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged.. Germination can take a while and may be slow and erratic.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots or trays, taking care not to damage the root system. Grow on in well-lit conditions, and pot on plants as required. Plant in a coarse loose compost to achieve huge plants very quickly.
Our seeds/bulbs are guaranteed to be fresh but are NOT guaranteed as to results. Sorry, but there are too many variables in gardening that can impact germination. Flower seeds/bulbs are a live organism. Their germination depends on many factor including heat, cooling, sun, shade, moisture, time of sowing, etc. None of these things We can control so We can not be held responsible for them. So please do not ask for a refund, replacement or to return unused seeds/bulbs.
