Frequently Asked Questions

Does this unit need a power supply to work?

These controllers are USB hub-powered and do not take an external power supply.

Do I need to install drivers for this to work on my PC/MAC?

No, these controllers areclass-compliant meaning that they are plug-and-play and do not require a specific driver download in order to function. The V series controllers will function on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 as well as all Mac operating systems that are 10.4.11 and above. Also, because they are class-compliant, they will continue to function as Windows and Apple come out with later updates and operating systems.

What are the programmable buttons for?

Use these buttons to send MIDI CC messages to your software. They can function as momentary or toggle (latching) buttons. You can also use the V Editor software to set each button to send program and change messages to your software. See the V Editor's User Guide to learn how to do this.

Does this have pre-programmed sounds?

These controllers do not. They are midi controllers and are meant to trigger software in your computer that has sounds built into them such as Ableton, Logic ect...

What kind of sustain pedals does this use?

The V Series has a connection for a 1/4"" TS sustain pedal (Momentary non-latching footswitch). It would be helpful to have one that has a polarity switch on it in case you want to customize the way the pedal reacts when being pressed down or released.

How do I reset the controller to the factory default settings?

To set the Keystation series controller to its factory default settings, follow the steps suggested below:

  1. Power Offthe Keystation.
  2. Hold down the buttonsADVANCED,OCT+, andOCT-simultaneously, until step 4.
  3. Power Onthe Keystation.
  4. Releasethe three buttons.

The Keystation is now set back to the factory default settings.

My sustain pedal is reversed and functioning backwards. What do I do?

The sustain pedal input on the rear of the Keystation series controller accepts any standard momentary, non-latching footswitch (sold separately). When pressed, this pedal will sustain the sound you are playing without having to keep your fingers pressing down the keys.

ThePolarityof the sustain pedal is determined by the keyboard upon startup. When the Keystation is powering up, the sustain pedal is assumed to be in theUp(Off) position. It is important that the sustain pedal is not pressed during startup, otherwise the pedal will reverse its operation, and notes will sustain when the pedal is not pressed.

To reverse the polarity, simply power off the Keystation series controller, ensure that the pedal is not depressed, and power the unit on.

My Keystation is not reading in my computer. Why not?

Most likely this is not due to the actual Keystation itself and is more likely something to do with the connection, a conflict with something else in the computer, or software settings. We recommend following the steps suggested below to determine the cause:

  1. Try connecting to a different USB port.
  2. Try connecting with an alternate USB cable.
  3. Try connecting to a different computer to determine if the cause is hardware or computer-related.

If you continue to experience difficulty after walking through the steps suggested above, you may want to consider contactingM-Audio Technical Supportfor further technical assistance.
