6. Dragonfly Texture Tile Mold for Glass Slumping

Description

Mold measures 7 x 13 inches. Earthenware ceramic tiles work wonderfully to texture glass in a kiln. Generally, any glass piece can be heated and textured on a texture tile. For the most reliable results the use of fusible glass is recommended and if more than one piece of glass is to be fused together, the glass pieces must be of the same COE. Once textured, the glass can be slumped to create lovely vessels or displayed flat as panels or sun catchers. With the use of a common slumping firing schedule and most slump molds, the texture will remain intact. The flat or slumped textured glass can be painted using a variety of post firing color products such as the opaque and translucent Color MagicTM colors featured in many of the projects pictured. The basic procedure for the use of Creative Paradise, Inc. texture tiles and design tiles follows: Apply a quality glass separator to the tile according to the manufacturer's instructions. If using a water-based glass separator, the water must be completely driven from the ceramic tile before use with glass. Take care not to choose a glass separator that is excessively thick as the separator can fill in too much detail. At Creative Paradise, Inc. Primo PrimerTM and Mold EZ TMby Hotline have been used with great success.

Description

Sold in pack of 20, 20.5 X 20.5 sheets. PAPYROS Kiln Shelf Paper is a ceramic-based paper specially formulated for glass fusing. When placed between the kiln shelf and the underside of a glass project, PAPYROS prevents the glass from sticking to the shelf during firing. Because of its sturdy composition, PAPYROS provides excellent glass/kiln shelf separation on the first use, and frequently even in subsequent firings. PAPYROS is quite durable, and tends to retain its paper-like qualities during firing, rather than decomposing into loose dust. The degree to which PAPYROS retains its integrity can be affected by the characteristics of the glass being used (Transparent vs. Opal), as well as the intensity of the firing schedule. With transparent glasses against the paper, your finished project can often lift cleanly away from the papered shelf, leaving the paper weakened, but intact. By carefully lifting the glass project off of the PAPYROS lined shelf, you may find that you can achieve more than one firing from a piece of PAPYROS. Because of their more tacky nature, opals and opal-containing glasses tend to stick more to the paper as the hot glass expands and contracts - especially in a full fuse. When this happens, it won't affect your project, but you will most likely need to replace the paper before firing on the shelf again. A good rule of thumb: if there is a tear or hole in the sheet, then you will need to use a new sheet for your next project.
