Some coin history: The Standing Liberty design features Lady Liberty holding an olive branch in one hand and a shield in the other. The design is heavily symbolic, as the coins were first produced during the outbreak of WWI - Liberty faces the East and bears her shield in that direction, showing that she is ready to face the threat of European war but still holds out hope for peace with the olive branch in her other hand. While the first iteration of the design in 1916 featured a bare-breasted Lady Liberty, a 1917 revision clad Liberty in a chainmail top. The Standing Liberty quarter dollar series was one of several new coin designs introduced in the first decades of the 20th century, the ultimate result of Teddy Roosevelt's efforts to beautify the nation's coinage. The Walking Liberty replaced the Barber quarter design, which had been used since 1892 and was not considered particularly attractive or notable. The Standing Liberty quarter was popular with the public throughout its tenure, until it was ultimately replaced by the Washington quarter design in 1932.7. 1960-1969 S 90% Silver Washington Quarters Gem Proof & SMS Run 10 Coins US Mint Decade Lot Complete 1960's Set
